Protecting yourself and others from the spread COVID-19

Protection from COVID-19

Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with an alcohol-based hand or wash with soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rubs will destroy the viruses in your hands.
Maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter (3 feet) between you and the others. Why? When someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks, they may spray tiny droplets of water from their nose or mouth, and they may contain viruses. If you are close enough, the person can breathe in droplets, including the COVID-19 virus, if they have the disease.

Avoid going to crowded places. Why? When people come together in groups, you are more likely to have a close relationship with someone who has a COIVD-19 and it is much more difficult to maintain a physical distance of 1 meter (3 feet).
Avoid touching the eyes, nose, and mouth. Why? The hands touch most surfaces and can get viruses. Once contaminated, you can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose, or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and make you infected.

Make sure you and those around you follow good breathing hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then immediately discard the used tissue and wash your hands. Why? The virus spreads. By following good respiratory hygiene, you protect the people around you from colds, flu, and COVID-19 viruses.
Stay home even with minor symptoms like cough, headache, mild fever, and so on. Somebody bring your supplies. If you want to leave your home, wear a mask to prevent infection from others. Why? They protect against COVID-19 and other viruses that may prevent them from making contact with others.

If you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, seek medical attention, but if possible, call your local health authority in advance. Why? National and local authorities have the most up-to-date information on the situation in your area. Calling your health care provider in advance can help direct you to the right health care facility. This will protect you and help prevent the spread of viruses and other infections.
Keep up to date with reliable information from trusted sources, such as the World Health Organization or your local and national health authorities. Why? It is best for local and national authorities to advise the people in your area what to do to protect themselves.
